Consumption Network

An ESRC-STP and DEFRA-sponsored network on consumption and sustainability held its first seminar at the Cabinet Office in December.

Three seminars are being convened by Green Alliance, with the aim of engaging decision-makers in a dialogue about recent developments in research on consumption behaviour and practice. The series is designed to inform the debate on sustainable consumption and production launched by the Government in 2003.

The second meeting was held on 2nd March 2004. An agenda for the day can be seen by clicking here

Governance Network

The governance of sustainable technologies network will:

  • Explore the various ways of linking research in the areas of governance, science and technology studies, and innovation studies with work on sustainable technologies;
  • Use research on sustainable technologies to 'talk' beyond the
    environmental studies communities and in particular to contribute to ongoing research into governance;
  • Develop a cross-cutting theme - governance of sustainable technologies - which can bring together a majority of projects funded under the ESRC’s Sustainable Technologies Programme;
  • Draw out policy recommendations from the work where this is appropriate.

The main output from the network will be the publication of an edited book which draws on the research funded under the ESRC’s Sustainable Technologies Programme and that of other interested scholars. Before this book is published, a set of working papers will be published on the STP web-site.
