The objectives of the Sustainable Technologies Programme are:
- To identify and explain the social and economic forces which shape, foster or inhibit sustainable technologies.
- To develop concepts to underpin research and development of more sustainable technologies.
- To develop policy options and influence policy to promote major improvements in resource productivity.
- To support social science contributions to the objectives of the STI.
-
To develop transdisciplinary research capacity on innovation and the environment in the UK.
The Sustainable Technologies Programme involves the social science academic community in transdisciplinary research (with natural scientists and engineers) and in partnerships with users (including business, NGOs and government). Within social science itself, there is a need to draw on a wide range of disciplinary contributions, and a particular need to bring together the extensive work on both innovation and environmental change.
